Research on Memory

1. Many people are confused with the memory. They think that the better memory you have, the better you will do in study. What is the secret of the memory? Some psychologists devoted themselves to the study of memory.
2. At first, we define memory as “an organism's mental ability to store, retain, and recall information (From Wiki)”. The discussion about memory started in 1885. In 1885, a famous German psychologist called Hermann Ebbinghaus (January 24, 1850February 26, 1909) raised the discovery of Forgetting Curve which illustrates the decline of memory retention in time.
3. H. Ebbinghaus chose many words consisted of irregular letters, such as asww and cfhhj. He read them and tried to recite them. Then, he wrote down the number of the words he remembered everyday, and collection the data to draw a graphic.
4. The forgetting curve shows that a man tends to forget something regularly. At the beginning, he forgets the things quickly. Then the speed is slow down. Several days later, the memory becomes steady.
5. After the research of the forgetting curve, you will find that if you review what you learned yesterday, you will forget more slowly.
6. There are two kinds of uses in memory. One is explicit uses of memory and the other one is implicit uses of memory. Sometimes human will use both of them you remember.
7. For example, if you see a rabbit in a kitchen, you will find you can remember it quickly and steady, because that when you see the kitchen, in your memory you know what is usually in a kitchen except the rabbit, and the rabbit is extraordinary.
8. There are two kinds of memory as well. Declarative memory is about the memory of facts and events. Procedural memory is about how to do things. It is usually used in getting, keeping and using the skills you learned before when you do something.
9. For example, if you want to dial the phone number of one of your friend, you can recite it naturally. Of course, you take it for granted, but at the first time you dialed the phone number, you still need to remember one number after another. You might think that you need to dial 5, then 1, then 7 and so on. This action is called knowledge editing.
10. How to use memory well is still a topic everyone talks about. If you can use your memory scientifically, you will get a improved memory.

I think we should take a note(or memo).

  5. Memory is like a supernatural confidence. It seems to come from you mind, but actually it comes from the surroundings. Memory curve is a scientific method help humans to control and use their memory well. 6. Definitely, the question How to get a efficient memory is a controversial topic for people. I agree with you, if I review the knowledge I have learnt everday , I would forget the knowledge slowly than I do not. However, if I keep this stratege as a habit to my study, I would like to memorize more knowledge than ever before .

  10. I thing memory is the aspect that make a deference between people. Some of them very quickly forget the information and some of them not. I thing to memories ever thing you need to have very strong memory. As I believe that memory is giving from Gad and we do not have change anything about, but we can developed it by taking notes and trying to active it from time to time. To have very strong memory it can very bad in some causes as you remember bad time or bad situation or someone who died and you love him very much.

  11. I have heard this memory curve before, and I tried to remember things as what the research suggested. I think it is effective. I can remember things better when I use that method. But always I just couldn't keep doing that, I think if we can use that method all the time. It will make us remember things well..

  13. I am this kind of person that can remember things very quickly. Sometimes when the frist time. Especially for my interested things I can remember forever.
But for the knowledge, the best way to keep them in mind is repeat. The more times you repeat the more you can remember.

  14. memory is a magical thing that we have little recognition about it. Experts are still working on it. I have heard that a person has his own memory curve. My opinion on having a good memory is we need to review the information we got from the situation. The more you review, the better memory you will have/

  15. I alway have problem of remeber person's name. When meet a chinese person's name, next time i meet she or he, i always can not get the correct whole name. And in english, it even goes worse, i will forget a common person's name in 5 seconds... it confused me a lot. But after playing rubic'cube, i find some trick to remeber things. There is a way to help people rember a log number: they give every number a replacement, fro example: 3 to ear, 8 for glasses and so on. then make a story about the cluster of number. When i read the sentence that about the rebit in the kitchen. I think it is another way to intenify memory.

AS A PART OF MY RESEARCH INVOLVES MEMORY, THIS IS TRULY INTERESTING. PROCEDURAL/ DECLARATIVE KNOWLEDGE IS A FAMOUS CONCEPT BY ANDERSON. THESE DAYS, I AM USING EXPLICIT/ IMPLICIT KNOWLEDGE INSTEAD OF P/D. I AM INTERESTED IN WORKING MEMORY, BUT SOME PEOPLE DO NOT BELIEVE IN IT. DO YOU BELIEVE IN IT?
