The Thanksgiving vacation

  1. First of all, I should apologize that I can not put all these pictures between the words and they are disordered.
  2. We had planned to have a thanksgiving vacation on my aunt`s home long time ago. On November 26th 2009, we were invited to her house by plane. The day before 26th, we did not sleep at all. Instead of sleeping, we played computer games together. It was a spectacular occasion, 4 people playing computer games and 3 people watching NBA, the rest of them were packaging their stuffs. Because thanksgiving the most famous western familial festival, all the native students have gone. My room is a 4 people room with a 20 inch television, which is one of the largest rooms in Bryan. All our Chinese friends have been to our room for chatting and playing. We were playing games until 4 o’clock, because we had reserved the taxi to airport. Our plane would departure from Lansing at 5:30 in the morning and arrived at Detroit, and then we would fly to Cincinnati from Detroit. After that, we transferred to the final destination, New York City. Although I agree that it`s a good chance to have many hassles when I am young, these three transformations really made me stomach and fatigued.
  3. When I came in her home, I felt hungry by the traditional delicious thanksgiving meal odor.
  4. My aunt`s daughter cooked an amazing thanksgiving dinner for us and I appreciated her very much. This is my aunt and her daughter.
  5. We ate turkey, apple salad, fried potato, eggs, apple pie, mashed potato, pumpkin pie and wine. Can you image that all those dainty traditional food were cooked by an 18-year-old Chinese girl, even the mashed potato sauce was made from the fresh strawberries!
After the wonderful dinner, I charged an airbed by myself. Here is the airbed.
  6. I edited my third essay until midnight. You see, I am a diligent guy. We woke up at 5am on the black Friday morning for shopping. I spent 3hours in the line in order to get in this goddamn Gucci shop. Tragically, I could not find any nice clothes or bags after I enter the shop. Because I was too late, all the new arrivals were sold out.
  7. In the evening, we played dota with our English friends on the floor.
  8. The next day, we visited Manhattan, the 5th avenue, the empire states and Soho. The world is small sometimes; I have met my friends on the 5th avenue in New York.
  9. I bought a macbook from here and carried it through the whole day! When we arrived at Soho at night, I saw another apple shop there. What a tragedy!
  10. I always forget to check the price before I pay the regular goods. At that night, I decided to buy some gift for my friends. So I went to a crowded chocolate shop and chose two boxes chocolate randomly. I thought they wouldn`t cost me so much money, because there are so many ordinary people in the shop. I disbelieved my listening at the first time, because I have heard that I should pay 80 dollars for only two boxes chocolates, which just contained 16 in each box. Factually, my listening capability was perfect. It was 80 dollars! I had given the gifts to friends eventually, I didn`t even know how it taste.
  11. Anyway, I bought a new laptop and few clothes for myself, had an wonderful thanksgiving meal and met my old friends in the NYC. I like my the first thanksgiving vacation in America. How about yours? Should be exciting, isn`t it?

Your body needs to sleep

1.Today, I will talk about sleeping. It is familiar with you. You need it every day. There is another thing that you know very much. It is also close to sleeping. Yes, you are right-------- dream.
2. You may spend 1/3 of your life on sleeping. When you are sleeping, your muscles become paralyzed. Of course, your health is not influenced. Your brain becomes active and is full of all kinds of activities. That is the result of dreaming.
3. Everyone is affected by the change of day and night, and your body is also controlled by circadian rhythm. It is a kind of time rhythm. According to research, without the influence of the sunshine, the “clock” in your body is different from the clock on the wall. It has 24.18 hours in a circle. So you need to be exposed to the sunshine to correct the “clock” in your body.
4. The change of your circadian rhythm and environment may influence your sensation and behavior. For example, when you travel for a long distance, you may experience time differences, and you will be tired and want to sleep.
5. In the 1/3 of circadian rhythm, you are at the standstill. We call the standstill sleeping. Scientists found the rapid eye movements during sleeping.
6. Sleeping have several stages. The former 4 stages are non-REM. Four stages is a circle, and the circle is 90 minutes. Then, you are in REM circle, and this circle is 10 minutes. You may experience 4 to 6 circles in a night.
7. You may rise such an interesting questing: why do we need to sleep.
8. Sleeping is the basic of biology. If the individual can spend 7 to 8 hours on sleeping, all parts of his body will be in good condition.
9. I mentioned 2 parts of sleep------NREM and REM. In NREM period, people and animals’ bodies can store the energy for the daily life, and they can also recover the damage. In REM part, structures of body will be set up.
10. Sleeping benefits you a lot. Why not keeping enough sleeping every day?

College Football

1 Have you ever seen football match before? I don’t know how many of you have seen our football match in Spartan Stadium. Did you enjoy it?
2 Actually, the match played on last Saturday was our last match this season. Did you go to stadium to see it? That was the last show of our Spartans. Although we lost the last match in a big gap, 42-14, our Spartans has tried them best.
3 After this match was ended, our final results are 6 win and 6 lost. This is an average result. In last season, our final result(9win and 3lost)is further better than this season. Besides, we got a chance to participate a bowl match which is Capital One Bowl. However, we lost that match.
4 The college football season currently begins Labor Day weekend, one week earlier than the NFL. The regular season continues through early December with the season's penultimate weekend holding several conference championship games and rivalry games. Starting in the 2009 season, the regular season finale, the Army–Navy Game, is one week later.
5 After season match, it also has postseason. The postseason consists of a series of bowl games that showcase the top 64 college teams. Bowl games generally match two teams of similar standing from different conferences.
6 The sponsor of bowl game needs to collect many data of match, and they have to do a lot of calculation. At the end, they decide who are going to take the bowl game. Of course, the team who wins the final champion, they will get plentiful award money.
7 Due to the Bowl games includes too many game, I cannot list all of them. I just list some important bowl games, such as Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and BCS National Championship Game.
8 The football match are very popular in America. Almost every American sees this match. It is full of energy, passion, and power. It is an exciting match that perfectly combines speed and power.
9 In fact, before I came to America, I have no any idea about football match. I do not even know what rule it is. Since I’ve been to this university, I deeply attracted by this match. Especially, that awesome touchdown makes you crazy.
10 If you are interesting in this game, you could get more information from this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_football.

Thanksgiving Day

1. As thanksgiving day approaches to us, I want to talk about thanksgiving day which is a national holiday of America . Here is a link about details of thanksgiving: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving
2. In the United States, thanks giving day is started on fourth Thursday of November every year. On that day, family will get together to celebrate this holiday with traditional turkey dinner. It normally begins at mid-afternoon and celebrates for great harvest of each year.
3. The history of thanks giving day may backing about 300 years ago, it started in 1621 before United states of America was formed. On September 6, 1620, the mayflower ship set sail from Devon, England to America. This ship was taking roughly 100 English pilgrims to the new continental, America.
4. The pilgrims sailed 66 days and finally arrived in America in November of the same year. They settle in a cornfield first and work on the land with much difficulty. About half of them died due to fatal disease. However, with help of an Indian named Squanto and his tribe, these pilgrims have learnt how to plant corn, bean, pumpkin and other crops, etc.
5. In the late September 1621, the pilgrim came to their great harvest. To celebrate the first harvest, they thank for god and invited all the native Indian to celebrate together in a feast. They ate turkey, duck, birds as well as some seafood. Therefore, the word “thanksgiving” came to people’s life.
6. The Thanksgiving Day was a time of happiness, friendship and appreciation with somebody who has helped you ever before. It became a holiday celebrating harvest for next 150 years until 1777.
7. On October, 3, 1777, president George Washington declared that thanksgiving day became national holiday and people can observe a day of public thanksgiving.
8. As for dinner on thanksgiving day, the turkey is required for each family. Beside it, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, corn are some dishes cooked in every family.
9. In addition, there are thanksgivings parades will be shown for people. It is an official day started with President Lincoln. Some soldiers in dress to display the country’s military strength and power so that encouraging people to love their country and providing a wholesome entertainment for them as well.
10. All in all, Thanksgiving Day is an important National holiday in United States of America. Hope you can learn something more about Thanksgiving Day from my article.

Some Slight Opinion about the Pop Music in China

Today I am going to introduce some professional things which are related to music to you.

After reading my short article, you might get more familiar to the music and you will not think music is difficult to you.
As I know, 90% of Chinese pop music has the most common and simple “scale”. The scale is like the level of the “chord”. Let me explain the word “chord” to you. If we hit the keyboard of a piano, we can hit at most ten notes once because we have ten fingers. However, we don’t need to hit so many notes once because three notes come to a “chord”. I think everyone should hear “Do Re Mi” when you were in elementary school. For example the note “Do Mi So” which is C, E and G come to a chord which is called C chord. As we have eighty eight notes in one piano, we have thousands of chords. Some of them sound bright, others may sound dark or blue etc. We chose the proper chord to express our feeling in a song. However, the reason why I think Chinese pop music is not difficult is that Chinese songs always use only six or seven common chords, at most ten. It is very easy to find out my discovery. For instance, there is a song called Take Me to Your Heart which is sung by Michael Learns to Rock, MLTR. The original version is sung by Jacky Cheung (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacky_Cheung). Its chord is extremely simple, just has four chords which C, A minor, F and G. However, if we change the song to another key, the chords will be different. How can I say Chinese Song is simple? The answer is simple, too. If we use the “scale” to take a look at this song, the scale will be one, six, four and five. No matter how we change the key, the scale will still be one, six, for and five. This is just an easy example which is also typical for Chinese songs. Hope it will develop your interest in music.

My favorite basketball player

  1. There are many famous basketball player in the world, for exapmle, Jason Kidd, Steven Nash, Kobe Bryant, and so on.

  2. However my favorite basketball player is Allen Iverson. His full name is Allen Ezail Iverson. Then I want to state some things about AI and you may like to watch him how to play basketball.

  3. First, I like him because that he play basketball based on his skill not his body, I really hate that some players who play basketball like playing football. AI was 1.83m that is samilar as me. He play basketball based on his speed and movement. This part affect me to change my style of play basketball.

  4. Secondly, AI has a stronger willing to win the game, he can play basketball like which is his final show. He said that he was not Micheal Jordan, he was not Lary Bird, he is just himself, and even through at that time Jordan is the god of basketball but AI still using crossover to score in fort of the god. At that time, he was in his first season in 76er.
  5. During the first ten years in NBA, he got MVP in all star game in his first season. He also got the most development player in his first season.
  6. He also represent the American basketball to the Olympics. He also is a singer and there are so many songs that he song. There is one that I still rememered is called Last Night.
  7. These year AI changed a lot, he was not the player who can play basketball for himself, he also help his teammates to score. But he is getting older and older, he can not be as fast as before.
  8. Recently, there is no NBA team wants to employe Iverson because no enough space that can let him show to us that he is as wonderful as before.
  9. However, I think there must be some players whose style of playing is samilar as Allen Iverson and Allen Iverson may teach some one how to play. In the fulture, we may say the NO.3 player that have some relationship with Allen.
  10. I hope I can see that day to see Allen Iverson's follower.

Singles Day

Today is the Singles Day!!!

I am so surprised that when I searched the Singles Day on Internet, I found that China is the only country which celebrate the special day for singles on Nov. 11(But from the class I found it is not truth, at lest there are three Asian countries have this holiday.).

How do Chinese people celebrate this special day? The most common way to celebrate it is have a dinner with some single friends, have a drink and sometimes hold a party try to end their single life. Besides this, there are still some ways to celebrate it but I have never heard before. For breakfast on Singles' Day, singles often eat four Youtiao (deep-fried dough sticks) representing the four "ones" in "11.11" and one Baozi (steamed stuffed bun) representing the middle dot.
Some singles also choose to say goodbye to their single lives on this day: many attend 'blind date' parties and many people choose to marry on this day. In addition to meaning 'single,' the four 'ones' of the date can also mean 'only one' as in 'the only one for me.' Some people will use this date and this meaning to tell their special someone that they are the only 'one' in their heart
(From Wikipedia)

I also found a web site from America. From the web site I found that Oct. 1st is the American Singles day. There are a lot of imformation about the Singles day.http://www.singlesday.com/
There are so many differences between these two countries Singles day, but the main reason of the two Singles day's celebration is the same. Most singles want to find a lover in the special day.

There are many singles in our class right now. How is your guy's Singles Day? Did you find someone to end your single life?

BTW, sorry for post it so late....

Gull Rock Lighthouse

  1. Lighthouses are very important to Michigan. Many people enjoy visiting the lighthouses. Each lighthouse has something unique about it. The light helps ships go to shore safely. I think they are very interesting to learn about.

  2. Lighthouses have an important place in our history. The main purpose of these lighthouses is to warn of danger. Some of the conditions might be that the weather conditions are bad or that the ship is getting close to rocky, shallow shorelines. Some other purposes are to serve as location points for sailors and to mark the harbors for them. Lighthouses in general help guide ships safely from one place to another.

  3. In the beginning, lighthouses were huge bonfires on top of hills that needed to be watched carefully so that fire would not spread. It was in 290 B.C. that Colossus lighthouse, at the entrance of Rhodes, was built by Chares of Lindos. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by an earthquake 80 years later. On the Island of Pharos, in 299 B.C., a lighthouse was built by the Egyptians and Sastratos of Knidos. It marked the entrance of Alexandria and it too was destroyed by an earthquake. The very first North American lighthouse was built in 1716, known as the Boston Light. It was located on Little Brewster Island.

  4. If you were to travel to Gull Rock Lighthouse from Okemos, you would need to go northwest. The latitude is 47.4169˚ north and the longitude is -87.6639˚ west. The city closest by this lighthouse is Copper Harbor, Michigan.

  5. Gull Rock is on an island with rough, rocky soil. The soil is not suitable for any kind of planting. The lighthouse is on Lake Superior. The climate is cool to cold all year round. It is pretty old. The lighthouse has only 2 materials. The materials are brick and masonry. The brick can be seen. The lighthouse has a 46 foot tower. There are 2-story keepers’ quarters. The length of the island is 250 feet. The length is 100 feet.

  6. Gull Rock has many special features. First, it has a square tower. It also has a spiral iron staircase, attached keeper’s quarters-integral, and a tower capped with an octagonal cast iron lantern. These are special features. Gull Rock had the Fourth Order Fresnel Lens. It was red. The Fresnel lens was constructed in 1867. There was no fog signal at this. Augustine Fresnel was a French inventor. He wanted to strengthen beam of light. So, he took a curved piece of glass, cut it to make many prisms. The prisms were stacked, shaped, and positioned. In the mid 1800s, all American lighthouses had one.

  7. Lighthouse keepers were on duty all night. The lights had to be lit on time at sunset and kept burning until sunrise. They had to make sure the equipment worked, painted the lighthouse, watched weather and watched for ships in trouble. The keeper kept a journal or daily log. They kept supplies in the lighthouse such as food, fuel, paint, and soap.

  8. A unique story is that Lake Superior is famous for violent November storms. In 1892, a schooner barge “G.M. Neelon” broke away from its tow and struck the rock in heavy seas. The vessel was abandoned.

  9. Right now, it is in use and the entire lighthouse exists today. People are restoring the station to serve as a retreat for writers and artists. Gull Rock keepers’ goal is to open it to the general public so people can visit it. Gull Rock should not be saved. There are dangerous reefs in the area, so it’s not safe for people to go there. It is closed to the public. None of the land is suitable for planting either.

  10. Lighthouses are very interesting to learn about. When you research a lighthouse, you will learn many things that you never knew. I think that lighthouses are very important to Michigan and they definitely helped save lives and ships. I hope you will be interested about Lighthouses, and visit there one day.

Love- the Eternal Topic

1." I' m also just a girl , standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her . If you love her , please dont be hesitate, hold her in your arms immidiately. "--Notting Hill

"It's a truth universally acknowledged thata single man in possession of a fortune, must be in want of a wife."-- Pride an Prejudice

"sam:I love you,Molly.I've always loved you.
Molly:Ditto
sam:It's amazing ,Molly
sam:The love inside ...you take it with you
sam:See you
Molly:Bye "-- Ghost

"I have loved you since I met you ...but I would not allow myself to truly feel it until today. I am always thinking ahead, making decisions out of fear. Today, because of you, what I learned from you ...every choice I made was different and my life has completely changed. And I have learned that if you do that, you are living your life fully. It doesn’t matter if you have five minutes or fifty years. Samantha, if not for today, not for you ...I would never have known love at all. So thank you for being the person who told me to love and to be loved."--If Only

2. There is always something we cannot forget; there is always somebody who makes us feel warm--they are all related to love.
3.I remreber a writer once said that "the basic precondition of living for human being is love." Love is a broad conception, but let's talk about the kind of love which is between lovers and couples.
4.People always have different opinions towards love. Some people think that love is a serious thing. They won't fall in love easily. By contrast, there are more and more people believe that life is short, they consider "Carpe Diem". They are never short of boy friends or girl friends.
5. We cannot tell that which is better. Different people have different value system. However, which one do you prefer?
6.I think if I have the choice to choose which kind of person I want to be, I will choose the first one without hesitation. Don't you think if you date people and hang out with them who you don't know much about is a waste of time? Not only yours but also theirs.
7. Do you believe the exist of Mr. Right?
8. I do. So much movies and stories let me believe that there must be a man waiting for me. (Don't poke fun at me~~) I believe there is a right girl or boy for everyone.
9. What does Mr. Right mean?
10.He should know me well, he should be thoughtful, he should be knowledgeable, he should be mature, he should be responsible, he should be patient, he should be decent, he should filial to our parents......
11. However, before meeting him, why not change myself to be a better girl?
12. Please wait patiently, there must be a special one waiting for you~~

An Inconvenient Truth

1. Have you seen this movie? This is a documentary film which was released in 2006 in the U.S.

2. “An inconvenient truth” means changing the environment. Global warming is an inconvenient for people, but it is true that the problem is proceeding.

3. The cast is only Al Gore who was a vice-president in the Clinton Administration. He has been interested in the problem of global warming since he was in Harvard University. He has been appealing this important problem to the world.

4. This film is made up of many his speeches and lectures about the environment problems. This film tells an inconvenient truth through a lot of weather data and films of nature which was changed dramatically by global warming.

5. The Bush Administration used to say that the global warming is just a hypothesis, and the global warming is not happening. This film criticizes an attitude of the government which does not look at the environment problems, and he appeals for people to protect the environment in their life.

6. The U.S. media did not tell these environment problems because they were following the Bush Administration. That is why many American people did not know the matters until they saw this film.

7. “An Inconvenient Truth” was released in not only the U.S. but also in many other countries. Al Gore published a book about the issue of global warming, too. His action has been affecting people all over the world.

1. "we wish you a merry Christmas;"
"we wish you a merry Christmas;"
"we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year..."
Are you familiar with this song? Can anybody sing it~ "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" is a popular secular sixteenth-century English carol from the West country of England. The song is often parodied. Have you felt the changing of the weather turning to be colder recently, with the trick-or-treat Halloween is leaving, a most popular welcome festival is coming to us, that is Christmas, also referred to as Christmas Day. - -`

2.
Christmas is an annual holiday celebrated on December 25 that commemorates the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. It is unknown whether this day is Jesus' actual date of birth, and the date of celebration may have been chosen. Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christian population, but is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival. Because gift-giving and several other aspects of the holiday involve heightened economic activity between both Christians and non-Christians, Christmas has become a major event for many retailers.

3. In many cultures, a winter festivals is the most attractive and popular festival in people's mind. Thanks to the fact that less agricultural works need to be done during the winter days, as well as an expectation of beautiful spring seem to be close coming. Christmas is a festival which comes up after the harvest season, and people all have prepared well for this special innovative festival. There will be a series of customs in Modern Christmas, such as gift-giving, merrymaking, greenery, lights, charity, and various foods.

4. Christmas cannot be Christmas without any decorations. The Christmas tree, which is one of the casual but important thing that can be seen colorful especially in the night, is often explained as a of pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice. Besides that, the poinsettia, a native plant from Mexico has been associated with Christmas since 19th century. Christmas cards are also the specials Christmas, they are generally commercially designed and purchased for the occasion, many cards expressing the best wishes among humans. "wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" becomes the warmest sentence deep in people's heart.

5. I love Christmas, I love the atmosphere in that special season which happiness can be found everywhere. Children, lovers, olders and little animals are being covered by the lovely snow. The whole world becomes silent, seems that everything stop its breathing and waiting for the coming happiness. It reminds me a poem which written by Trade Martin:
"Christmas Oh Christmas
How we love you oh Christmas
You’re a day so sweet and kind
When we leave the past behind
And enjoy the hope you bring
To our hearts and our minds
Christmas Oh Christmas
How we love you oh Christmas"

I make a wish in advance, I hope everybody will enjoy this "freshman" Christmas ! lol
