Tips for Taking Toefl Test

  1. All the Students in the ELC class want to take toefl exam to pass the courses, because they want to jump into the regular classes in the MSU.
  2. However, there are some tips for the people who is going to take the toefl exam. If you plan to do well on the test, you should know and keep in you mind.
  3. At the beginning, people must know what is toefl, and what is the toefl exam like, and the differences between other test or exam. The test has 4 parts of entire exam which are speaking, listening, reading, and writting.
  4. In the listening part, people should practice more before the test. When you begin, make sure the headphone is good. During listening, paying attention especially listening carefully about the instruction, and taking a good notes. Do not write everything but just the key words or phrases.
  5. In the speaking part, people should not be so nervous and do not influence by others who is sitting next to you. In addition, people should know about the system standard which means how to score and what are they testing, for instance accuracy and fluency are the two of points they are testing. The most important point is relax yourself.
  6. In the reading part, you do not have to reading everything, just reading the significant part which can help you answer the questions. In this part, scanning is used often. Furthermore, you should know you may not have enough time to read and answer the questions, superadd many kind of complicated questions, make sure organize your time well.
  7. In the writting part, you will write 2 artical. You must take note in the first one, in the section, listen carefully and take a good notes will help you about your artical. Because you will write a short comparision essay. The next one is the regular timed writting, you should finish within 30 minutes. Make sure you have a good organization and good handwriting, also do not stray from the topic.
  8. In retrospect, I already talked about many tips about the exam, I hope people can remember them and do well on the test.

    oh I got the sofa! I am planning to take a TOEFL test probably next semester. Your tips help me so much. I read it words by words to make sure that what should I focus on.

    Many people wants to take toefl test, but usually half of them can not pass the test.
    I think IBT is harder than PBT test because IBT have speaking part.
    If you study really hard, you will pass the exam.

    I agree with AJ's opinion. IBT is harder than PBT. I have taken TOEFL IBT test once. I did not know how it is organized so much. That is why I became quite nervous. My score was horrible.

    Thanks for your information about TOELF,but it has more risk to take, i mean if you not pass one of the four part, you can not go to regular. However it is a chance you can get to go the regular class. Good luck.

    I took the IBT last Friday, and I also have some tips. First, you'd better have a coat with you. It's really cold in the testing center. However, cold is good for you to think. Practising the ability of taking notes is really important. You may find that each part of IBT, not including reading, you will all take notes.

    Well, I think that TOEFL is difficult test for me. Maybe, I have not familiar with the testing ways and question of TOEFL. But, many students now tend to take IBT test rather than old TOEFL. Anyway, I would like to take IBT test after finish this semester.

    I remember the first time that i took the test. I didnt prepared well, actually i didn't do anything without just looked at some vacaburaly. then I went to here. I remeber that was rain day. It was wet outside, I fell kind of strange and being a dream, things apeared in uncleary way. When i got the reading part, i was so hurry by the clock that hunging at the right corner, cuz it was not enough anyway. Then i got the idea of tofle test "be hurry". I was thinking about to pass the placement and jump at least one level during this semester. But I probably will take a tofle test at next semester.

    I think most of us hvea took TOEFL before.But actually I think TOEFL is difficult for me.Because I am not good at reading,and TOEFL's reading part is really difficult.In my eyes,IELTS is more suitable for me,it is easier than TOEFL.I am planing take IELTS in the Xmas holidays。

    Now i think that TOEFL is a necessary step for every international students. Even if you pass the courses in ELS, you can not say your life is completely. That is why i think i am going to take a TOEFL text.

    3. At the beginning, people must know what TOEFL IS, and what TOEFL exam IS like, and the differences between other test or exam. The test has 4 parts IN THE entire exam, which are speaking, listening, reading, and WRITING.
    4. In the listening part, people should practice A LOT before the test. When you begin, make sure the headphone is good. During listening, PAY attention especially * TO the instruction, and TAKE good notes. Do not write everything but just the key words or phrases.
    5. In the speaking part, people should not be so nervous OR not BE influenceD by others who ARE sitting next to you. In addition, people should know about the system * OF how to score and what * they ARE testing. For instance accuracy and fluency are the two * points they are testing. The most important point is TO relax yourself.

    INTERESTINGLY, SOME OF MY FRIENDS TOLD ME THAT IBT IS EASIER THAN PBT. ONE OF THE REASONS IS THAT IT IS EASY TO GET A HIGH SCORE AS THE SCORE RANGE IS MUCH NARROWER THAN BEFORE. EVEN IF YOU GET A LOW SCORE, DON'T WORRY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET A GOOD SCORE ONCE. THE MORE YOU TAKE IT, THE MORE YOU GET USED TO IT, AND IT WILL BE EASIER TO PERFORM BETTER. I TOOK IT THREE TIMES. SO DON'T GIVE UP!
